If the discussions are successful it will propel Braemar into a bigger league binding Burness´s specialist gas and chemical knowledge onto the larger company's tanker and dry cargo expertise.

But it also throws a question mark over the future of a Burness joint venture in Singapore involving Simpson, Spence & Young with whom Braemar is fiercely competitive.

Allan Marsh, the boss of Braemar declined to comment on the talks saying they were essentially going on with the company's tanker division.
