Greece has a new shipping minister following a cabinet reshuffle by the country’s two party coalition government.

Miltiadis Varvitsiotis assumes the role of Minister of Mercantile Marine, in place of the outgoing Kostis Mousourouli.

The Greek press claims the new minister is required to solve several "hot issues” in shipping.

These include negotiating a new deal with Cosco for the Port of Piraeus and dealing with struggling companies, particularly passenger lines.
