West Africa LPG is set to make its debut as a shipowner with a surprise order for a midsize LPG carrier.

Sources say the company has ordered a 35,000-cbm ship at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in South Korea for delivery in the second half of 2016.

No figure has been reported but LPG brokers say prices are on the increase and that West Africa LPG is likely to be paying $53m to $54m for the vessel, which will be used for trading along the west coast of Africa by the British Virgin Islands-registered company.
