European shortsea container specialist BG Freight Line has fixed four smaller ice-strengthened feederships on long-term charter.

The 1,036-teu Wes Carina and Wes Gesa (both built 2011) have been taken for 24 months’ trading at EUR 7,600 ($8,374) per day, while sisterships Anne Sibum (built 2007) and Phoenix J (built 2010) have been fixed for 18 months at the same rate.

BG, which operates 12 vessels of between 340 teu and 1,036 teu, is paying a premium of more than $1,000 per day for the quartet above spot rates when compared to a ship such as the 1,060-teu MOL Aqua (built 2009), which has been taken by CMA CGM for five to eight months at $7,000 per day.
