The death of a 42-year-old Filipino seafarer on the cruiseship Harmony of the Seas at the French port of Marseilles shows that the shipping industry has not overcome the long-running problem of lifeboat drill accidents.
The four other crew who were in the lifeboat on the 227,000-gt, newly delivered luxury cruiseship all suffered serious injuries as a result of the unexpected release from the fifth deck during a statutory drill.
