The maritime industry’s inevitable march towards unmanned commercial vessels has taken another step forward.
Wartsila, the Finnish marine engineering giant, claims to have successfully remotely controlled a Gulfmark Offshore PSV from over 8,000 km away.
The trials took place off the coast of Scotland in the North Sea earlier this month, but with the ship controlled from Wartsila’s office in San Diego, California.
