Hapag-Lloyd plans to start distributing its rate and tariff information through a new online portal, signalling the latest effort to drive digital transformation in the staid shipping industry.

Cargosphere, a North Carolina-based start-up, will provide a cloud-based direct data feed of ocean rates and tariffs for the global trade lanes for Hapag-Lloyd.

Hapag-Lloyd is the first ocean carrier to sign up for the Cargosphere platform, which aims to replace an email distribution system using carrier-proprietary file attachments.
