VLCC orders and demolition neck and neck in 2018

Tanker owners are ordering new VLCCs almost as fast as their peers can scrap them.

Allied Shipbroking counts 15 firm VLCC newbuildings placed this year which have been assigned IMO numbers, while TradeWinds has identified 17 VLCCs sold for demolition in 2018.

Kyklades Maritime is the latest shipowner to have added VLCCs, following peers KOTC and JX Ocean, which has inked a single VLCC at Japan Marine United in the past few days.
