Rising bunker prices are turning the screw on older, less fuel efficient crude oil tankers, says Paris-based analyst Alphatanker.

The current high rate of tanker demolition could accelerate, it says.

Prime candidates for scrapping are the least efficient vessels over 15 years old engaged in long-haul trades where bunkers account for a higher proportion of total costs.
