A seafarer has died after being hit by a snapped lashing rope on a bulker in New Zealand.

The 34,000-dwt Coresky OL (built 2015) was docked in Eastland Port in Gisborne when the wire line parted on Wednesday morning, local media said.

The man was tying logs to the deck when the incident occurred.

He died in hospital.

Maritime New Zealand went to the scene to conduct an investigation.
