An ageing FSO laid-up off Yemen has been described as a "floating bomb" by environmentalists.

The 407,000-dwt Safer (built 1976), owned by Yemen's Safer E&P Operation Company, is anchored off Ras Isa.

Built in Japan, the single-huller may still contain around 1.14m barrels of crude.

It has not been operational since March 2015 when the region fell under the control of the Houthi rebels.
