An MOL LNG carrier has set a new record for the fastest transit of the ice-covered part of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in the Arctic.

Russian producer Novatek said the 172,600-cbm Arc7 ice-class vessel Vladimir Rusanov (built 2018) completed the passage in an easterly direction, delivering Yamal gas from the port of Sabetta to Tianjin in China.

It transited the ice-covered part of the route in only six days, a new record for independent passage via the NSR without ice-breaking support with a cargo on board.
