Efforts by Dutch salvage company Smit to remove the fuel from a general cargo ship aground off the south-western coast of Sardinia had to be temporarily suspended over the weekend due to bad weather.

Smit is in the process of removing fuel oil from Nuovo Naviservice’s 8,000-dwt CDRY Blue (built 2010). The ship was driven onto a rock outcrop beneath high cliffs on 21 December while seeking shelter from a fierce storm.
