Leading salvage companies Smit and Ardent have been contracted to salvage a Polaris Shipping VLOC that grounded off Vale's Ponta de Madeira terminal.
The duo have signed deals under terms of the Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF), a standardised salvage contract.
Both companies are now beginning the process of offloading pollutants, including the vessel’s full tank of fuel oil, and arranging pollution prevention measures before attempting a refloating operation.
