A late flurry of VLCC orders has breathed new life into a struggling newbuilding sector, which is set to close 2020 as one of the weakest years for contracting.

Of the 34 VLCCs ordered this year, 25 were booked in the second half, with most deals being signed in the final quarter.

Hyundai Heavy Industries took the lion’s share, securing 25 vessels, with orders still being signed this week.
