Norwegian owner Fjord1 has signed contracts for seven new battery-powered ferries after winning a big domestic contract.

The Saevik family-backed company said Havyard in Norway will build five 50-passenger vessels for NOK 800m ($102m), while Turkey's Cemre Shipyard will construct a pair of 80-pax ships for an undisclosed price.

Havyard has designed all seven and delivery is set for autumn 2019.
