The MSC Group said on Wednesday it would invest in Africa’s shipyards and container terminals after completing the €5.7bn ($6bn) purchase of the Bollore Group’s logistics operations in Africa.

The conclusion of the deal, first announced in March, followed regulatory and competition approvals. It adds shipping, logistics and terminal operations in Africa, as well as port concessions in India, Haiti and Timor-Leste to the MSC portfolio.

Bollore Africa Logistics (BAL), a powerhouse in the region, has operations that include 16 container terminal concessions in Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Togo and Guinea.
