Greeks have been busy buyers of large product tankers, with international brokers linking two Hellenic names to separate deals for 13-year-old LR2 units that are owned by Asian interests.

This is in contrast to the prevailing trend in crude carriers, where Greeks are mostly on the selling side of the fence, offloading aframaxes that are about 20 years old.

A number of LR2 fixings were reported recently, with charter rates showing signs of bottoming out.
