Roxana Shipping locks LR1 tanker into period charter

Greek shipowner Roxana Shipping has locked an LR1 tanker into a period charter and may have found similar deals for two others.

European shipbrokers said Roxana has chartered the 74,000-dwt Athiri (built 2010) to Koch Industries at $20,500 per day for about a year.

The fixture takes advantage of rising rates. Clarksons said in its weekly report that a 74,000-dwt modern LR1 tanker should fetch $19,500 per day for a one-year charter, up from $16,750 per day a month earlier.
