Grand China Logistics (GCL) has contended that the signature of its former executive chairman was not enough to bind the Chinese company to charter guarantees to shipowner Spar Shipping, according to legal documents obtained by TradeWinds ahead of a trial between the two outfits.

In the documents, GCL’s Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) lawyers argue that the company can only be bound to the letters of guarantee by one person — the statutory representative listed with China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce.
