Fleet operators are increasingly moving to VSAT (very small aperture terminal) and cellular satellite communication systems to cater for crew Internet access.

Global satellite communications (satcomms) provider NSSLGlobal says it is pushing out 3G and 4G mobile technology to provide crew welfare and entertainment services.

NSSL Asia-Pacific regional sales director Priya Patel says the company’s control of its own networks, combined with partnership deals with satcomms groups Inmarsat, Iridium, Thuraya and equipment company Cobham, allows it to provide a greater variety of communication packages than its rivals.
