Tanker owners looking to book ships for floating storage may only find limited opportunities.
The fixture of the 320,000-dwt Maran Thetis (built 2012) and 318,000-dwt Gener8 Ulysses (built 2003) for floating storage duty off the UK coast drew renewed interest from shipowners seeking to employ vessels amid signs of weaker VLCC demand, brokers say.
VLCC time-charter equivalent (TCE) rates on the benchmark route of the Middle East Gulf to Japan fell to a 22-month low of $18,716 per day as of Monday, according to the Baltic Exchange.
