Hopes for an ice-free Northwest Passage are greatly exaggerated, Fednav officials believe, including Tom Paterson.

The ice-navigation specialist has become an outspoken sceptic on the subject of global warming and its supposed benefits for Arctic navigation.

"Talk of the Northwest Passage becoming the next Suez Canal is great to sell newspapers but it's not very close to reality. It isn't going to happen in my lifetime and I'm not very old," said Paterson.
