Reederei Horst Zeppenfeld's latest acquisitions show that it is betting on a return to form for the sub-3,000-teu sector.

The German boxship owner has picked up two containerships, the 2,785-teu Cala Pancaldo (built 2007) and 2,785-teu Cala Pigafetta (built 2008), for a reported $24.5m each. The vessels are currently trading as the MSC Cameroun and MSC Andes , respectively, and are on charter to Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) until next April at a rate said to be in the high $5,000s per day.
