The decision was taken at a board meeting today as part of the Taiwanese-line’s ongoing fleet renewal, the company said in a statement.
Evergreen said the aim of the newbuildings was to “optimize the competitiveness of Evergreen's operating fleet and reduce the carrier's unit costs.”
It said the newbuildings would replace existing vessels and result in chartered ships being returned to their owners on expiration of the charters.
