Domestic shipyards Shin Kurushima Dockyard and Japan Marine UnitedCorp will each build two vessels.

K Line says the quartet of new ships is due to be delivered startingin 2015 and the first quarter of 2016.

“We have spent considerable length of time studying andinvestigating the most suitable next generation car carrier with shipyards,” saysYoshiyuki Aoki, executive managing officer, of K Line’s car carrier sector.

“We have appointed two shipyards and are adopting state of the artdesign in terms of fuel efficiency and flexibility on cargo handling that willbe far better than our existing fleet.”

K Line says these vessels will be the widest beam ever built,around 37-38 meters with 7,500-unit capacity.
