An NYK-owned car carrier came under attack from pirates in a failed hijacking bid in the Arabian Sea at the weekend.



The assault on the 6,501-car-capacity Sagittarius Leader occurred not far from where the Indian Navy rescued a hijacked fishing vessel acting as a mothership and arrested 61 pirates.

Small arms fire was launched at the 2005-built, Panama-flagged vehicle carrier by pirates in two skiffs about 700 miles east of the Yemeni island of Socotra early on Saturday morning, an informed source told TradeWinds.
