Operators led by Maersk Line have been redelivering vessels to keep a cap on charter rates but remain willing to cough up for wide-beam boxships operating to ports in South Asia.

Evidence of that was seen with the Danish liner operator paying more to take one of the Chittagong-max designs from Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL)/John T Essberger (JTE).

The 2,268-teu Ulanga (built 2016) has been taken on charter by MCC Transport, the intra-Asian operation of AP Moller-Maersk, at a rate of $12,500 for six to nine months, say shipbrokers.
