Indonesian authorities are in the process of refloating an Iranian-flagged containership that grounded in the Singapore Strait last month.

The ship's future will be determined by the few options that remain open to the sanctioned Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).

Even if the Iranian-flagged 6,572-teu Shahraz (built 2008) can be salvaged, the Iranian shipowner and operator will face tough decisions on whether to scrap the ship or find a repair yard willing to do the work despite US sanctions recently being reimposed on the company.
