The IMO's 2020 sulphur cap is creating a standoff in the chartering market over the cost of measures, according to some shipping executives.
Charterers and operators are eager to secure tonnage for periods extending from now through 2020, but at current rates.
However, shipowners are said to be keeping back tonnage, especially “eco” ships, as those could fetch even higher premiums after 2020.
