The union had on Tuesday notified Teekay Shipping (Australia), which provides tug and towage service at the port, that they intended to stop work for four hours each day on 9 August, 11 August and 13 August.

Today union officials were forced to call off the strike after discovering they had acted in error of Australian laws. Under the law, the notice needed to be provided on Monday, which would have allowed strike action to commence on Friday, which is the last day of a 30-day window allowing protected industrial action.
