A US Navy petty officer has been sentenced to jail for his part in the Glenn Defense Marine Asia (GDMA) bribery and corruption scandal.

Dan Layug has received a 27 month prison term for accepting cash, consumer electronics and travel expenses in exchange for classified US Navy information.

In May 2014 Layug pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and is the first defendant to be sentenced in the bribery scheme involving Singapore-based GDMA, which provided port services to US Navy ships in the Asia Pacific region and used bribery to obtain information to win and maintain contracts.
