The Euronav chief executive poked fun at the funds in an entertaining address at Marine Money in London but suggested they will not be caught out of pocket.
Rodgers told the audience at the Dorchester Hotel: "I was joking with somebody, 'what's the difference between private equity and the Boy Scouts? The Boy Scouts have adult leadership.'
"When you go to meet someone from private equity they have $40bn under management and I'm thinking you are the same age as my son," he said to the amusement of delegates.
