State-owned Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) has made its debut in the LNG carrier segment with an order for up to four newbuildings from a domestic owner.

The Chinese shipyard said it has struck a deal with China Merchants Energy Shipping — part of state conglomerate China Merchants Group — for two firm 175,000-cbm LNG carrier newbuildings. The deal includes options for an additional two vessels.

News of China Merchants planning to order the LNG carriers was first reported in TradeWinds at the end of last year.
