Hurricane Laura barreled into Louisiana early Thursday as a Category 4 storm, knocking out power to thousands of people but leaving the US Gulf Coast's energy infrastructure intact.

ExxonMobil's Beaumont, Texas refinery is set to restart Friday, while its Baytown refinery and Magellan Midstream Partners' terminal, both in Houston, started up again on Thursday, Bloomberg has reported.

More than 80% of oil output in the Gulf of Mexico and almost 3m barrels a day of refining volume closed ahead of the storm, causing gasoline futures prices to spike earlier this week.
