A pair of shipowners are fighting to secure an LNG bunker vessel (LNGBV) newbuilding charter deal from energy major Total.

Those following the LNG bunkering sector said MOL and a French partner are in competition with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement to win a contract to back an LNGBV of just under 19,000 cbm.

They commented that MOL, which is currently building an 18,600-cbm LNGBV for Total, has offered in on the business, specifying a membrane-type cargo containment system in a repeat of its vessel under construction at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) in China.
