Gard and rival clubs come under fire on a regular basis from brokers for not being sufficiently responsive to the tough times shipowners have faced over recent years.
But Gard chief executive Rolf Thore Roppestad has a different take on the best way for the protection-and-indemnity clubs to respond to the favourable claims environment.
“The claims reduction over the last five years had been so large it has not fully reflected in the premiums upfront,” he concedes.
