Only two lines have reacted to shippers’ demands for greater clarity on surcharges to cover the cost of low-sulphur fuels.
Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd have detailed how shippers will be expected to contribute to the billions of dollars of extra fuel costs resulting from implementation of the IMO’s 0.5% sulphur emission standard from January 2020.
Hapag-Lloyd took a step further in that direction this week, unveiling a Marine Fuel Recovery (MFR) mechanism, which will be gradually implemented, starting on 1 January 2019.
