Hawaii has issued a permit for an underwater noise test off the island
of Kauai, prompting a confrontation between researchers and
environmental groups that vow to block the project.
Greenpeace Foundation-Hawaii director Michael Bailey says a protest is
being organized by Greenpeace and the Los Angeles-based Sea Shepherd
Conservation Society to stop the project, known as ATOC, for "acoustic
thermometry of ocean climate."
