DNV GL says it recently completed the first production surveys using drones.
“The advantage of using a drone over conventional staging inside the tank is absolutely clear,” said Jochen Huhn, marine superintendent and chief security officer at Carl Buttner Shipmanagement, which saw 14 tanks on its 24,000-dwt chemical tanker Apollo (built 2003) inspected in two-and-a-half days.
“This is a very promising beginning,” said DNV GL chief executive Knut Orbeck-Nilssen.
