An Indian-managed aframax tanker accused of being a rogue vessel engaged in sanctions-busting activities has become the subject of a rare demolition sale this week.

The 109,300-dwt crude carrier Tellus (built 2003) has reportedly fetched $580 per ldt, or $11.5m, in the recycling market. Brokers said the ship is heading to a facility in Bangladesh.

This final destination is confirmed by the vessel itself, which is broadcasting “Chitagang” on its AIS, an apparent misspelling of Chittagong, the previous name of the Bangladeshi port city and ship-recycling centre now known as Chattogram.
