The US Coast Guard (USCG) has been involved in a near 360 mile trip to rescue an injured sailor in the Pacific Ocean aboard a Gearbulk vessel.

The unnamed 38-year-old man was airlifted from the 54,300-dwt Tawa Arrow (built 2008) on Saturday as the ship steamed 174 miles off the Columbia River.

The USCG had received a request for assistance at 14:53 local time from the shipping agent for the Panama-flagged vessel.
