LNG shipowners and operators transiting the expanded Panama Canal are forfeiting thousands of US dollars paid in reservation fees for slots they have missed.
Companies with vessels that have used the canal, which opened to LNG carriers in June 2016, say it costs $35,000 to book a slot to transit the waterway but, if their vessel is delayed and they miss this position, then they lose both it and the cash.
