Maersk Tankers has completed the installation of the world’s largest rotor sails on one of its LR2 product tankers.

The 30-metre tall units have been installed aboard the 109,647-dwt Maersk Pelican (built 2008) during a recent stopover in Rotterdam.

Rotor sails are large, cylindrical mechanical sails that spin to create a pressure differential - called the Magnus effect - that propels the vessel forward.
