A shipowner has won a $2.8m London arbitration case despite tendering an invalid notice of readiness (NOR) for a bulker later grounded by a hurricane in the US this summer.

Financing company C Demurrage called it a "very striking" award involving an unnamed vessel chartered to carry soya beans and meal from a Mississippi river terminal in August.

The vessel tendered the NOR from outside the port on 24 August, but a National Cargo Bureau (NCB) surveyor later rejected the cleanliness of the holds.
