Malaysian state energy company Petronas has inked $240m-worth of contracts for a pair of bespoke LNG carrier newbuildings with China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group).

The shipyard announced the deal after Petronas said it had signed up to supply 1.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG to Shenergy Group from 2022 with cargoes shipping into China's Wuhaogou LNG import terminal.

Petronas inked two 80,000-cbm ships at Hudong-Zhonghua for about $120m each, due for delivery in the first half of 2022.
