Shipowners have been warned about the threat of armed robbery at the Batangas anchorage in the Philippines after two incidents.

The first incident involved the Japanese-owned 19,800-dwt chemical tanker Pacific Sapphire (built 2008) on the morning of 14 August.

The Singapore-based Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) said: “The perpetrator entered the cabin of the general steward, threatened him by pointing a long knife at him and stole his personal belongings.
