Shipowners will be able to order LNG-fuelled vessels that are built ammonia-ready, according to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

That will enable them to be switched to lower carbon propulsion solutions when the technology is ready, the South Korean shipbuilder said.

On Tuesday, the shipyard said it had obtained approval in principle (AIP) from classification society Lloyd’s Register for an ammonia-fuelled, 23,000-teu ultra-large containership.
