Traffic on the Suez Canal returned to normal over the weekend after a large containership that went aground on Thursday was refloated.

The 12,550-teu MSC Fabiola (built 2010) was refloated at around 01:20 hours local time on Saturday, reports agency company GAC.

The Peter Dohle-owned containership was then said to have resumed its southbound transit to Suez escorted by five tugs.

The grounding of the Portuguese-flagged vessel at 144km at about 16:30 hrs on Thursday was blamed on engine trouble, according to GAC.
