The master of El Faro’s sistership said he noticed that he was receiving inaccurate weather data during Hurricane Joaquin.
Capt Kevin Stith, who was master of TOTE Maritime’s 5,330-lane-metre El Yunque (built 1976) on the day that its sister ro-ro sank, told the US Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation (MBI) that he also contacted El Faro master Michael Davidson to discuss the weather conditions as the two ships crossed paths.
